Suzuki GSX-R600

While you’re at it you can also learn to get the rear tyre spinning in the wet and nail it to the limiter ready for rolling burnouts in the summer.

It helps me get through the miserable days of autumn. The GSX-R600 has enough power to do this in the slightest of damp conditions although the Pirelli Super Corsas have helped as when they’re cold they offer feck-all grip. I’ve placed my order with Bridgestone for a pair of BT0-14s to combat this wet weather.

They heat up quickly and offer surprising amounts of grip, although a good slip of the clutch has the rear breaking quite nicely. They are a good competent tyre in the dry too making them a quality all round compromise.

As the year draws to a close I want to see how the Suzuki shapes up with the grime and salt on our roads. Suzuki used to be renowned for poor quality and the slightest hint of salt had the nuts and bolts cowering.

These days it seems Suzuki has addressed the problem; last year’s longterm GSXR1000 came through winter nicely. On the accessories front the Harris rearsets have improved rear braking. They give a consistent feel through the foot lever and work much better over standard helping to stay upright when braking hard in the rain.

They also let me practice my backing it in technique into roundabouts although after a few close shaves I’ve given up on that. So for now I have given the GSX-R some much needed TLC. Once the tyres have been changed and the service done I can look forward to one more decent ride on our traditional end of year ‘termers trip before the harsh winter sets in. Once we have decided where to go.
