Sebastien Loeb – Home Stretch

Ordinarily, one would see it as being that way. However, a freak mountain biking accident while training broke his right arm and that may play its part in the championship race.

“I was going down a dirt track in a forest and my front wheel got stuck… I went over the handlebars and landed on my shoulder,” said Loeb.

The injury has resulted in Loeb undergoing surgery for his broken arm, but Loeb hopes he’ll be back up and running for the New Zealand round on November 17-19.

With uncertainty hanging over whether Loeb will definitely compete at one or two of the remaining rounds, the chance now stands for Gronholm to steal the championship.

However, it would Gronholm to grab 26 of the remaining 30 points to secure the top spot. But if Loeb does step back into his Citroen in any of the remaining rounds then a matter of five points will place the title out of reach and notch yet another championship win on his belt.

With the constructors championship up for grabs still the Kronos team has brought in Colin McRae to drive in Loeb’s -absence due.to him being the fastest of the driver options available.

Unfortunately for McRae, his late retirement in the rally after running in the top-eight throughout the early-stages meant only Xavier-Pons picked up any constructors points. At the end of the Rally of Turkey it was Gronholm who nabbed the top spot over team mate Mikko Hirvonen, who completed the Ford one two finish. Henning Solberg came in third.
