Peugeot To Challenge Audi For 24 Hour Title
With 60 per cent of Peugeot’s sales in Europe and 70 per cent of France’s sales containing HDi technology, it is the perfect place for Peugeot to showcase their abilities.
Powering the 908 V12 HDi will be a 5.5-litre, 100-degree, twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder that is expected to produce around 700hp and a mammoth 1200Nm of torque.
The V design of the 100-degree engine will allow for the height of the centre of gravity to be as low as possible, without directly affecting the torsional rigidity of the engine.
Le Mans regulations allow for a maximum of 12 cylinders, and 5.5-litres, so Peugeot have sought to push the envelope of the regulations.
The reason behind the V12 was to have an engine that efficiently operated at low speeds, but also enabled power to be limited at first. With Peugeot’s current know-how in diesel and particulate filter technology, teamed with the abilities of the V12 package, they’re optimistic as to how the car will perform in the legendary race, against the legendary Audi.
