A Benchmark of Luxury and Iinnovation BMW 7 Series

Its assistance systems help in assessing difficult driving situations, while its intelligent chassis systems can “think” on the fly. Many of the innovations that are making their debut here will filter down, not only to other BMWs, but to competitive makes, for generations to come.

Like the engineers and designers who created it, the all-new BMW 7 Series is for those who never stand still. Easy on the eye, luxurious to the touch.

From supple Nappa Leather-upholstered Comfort seats and individually adjustable climate zones, to the atmospheric Ambiance Lighting, every pleasure-inducing appointment has been integrated into this sumptuous environment.

The superb audio system turns the cabin into the ultimate concert hall on wheels, its 16 high-performance speakers producing a moving 3-D sound experience. With the longest wheelbase in its class and optional ventilation and massage, the 750Li gives back-seat passengers just one more reason to stretch out and smile.

The Main menu of the new iDrive system (above) presents a clearly structured list of options. Intuitive navigation: The direct selection buttons around the Controller (right) have different shapes, so you can command an array of functions without taking your eyes off the road. (Shown with optional ceramic control.) Opposite page: both rear-seat passengers can enjoy separate entertainment with the optional Rear Entertainment Package.

The all-new BMW 7 Series is filled with innovations designed to increase every aspect of your driving confidence and enjoyment. For example, did you ever drive on a dark, moonless night and be suddenly taken aback by pedestrians in the road? If your vehicle had BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection, you would have had advance warning to take evasive action.

With this optional feature, an infrared camera, mounted in the front bumper, scans the road up to 980 feet ahead and displays the image on the dash-mounted monitor. If the body heat of a pedestrian is detected, that area on the monitor is highlighted in yellow; it can also determine the direction of their movements up to 300 feet away, with a warning if they are heading towards you or standing in the road.

Even in a storm, you’ll know where you’re going with the standard, new Navigation system. View a variety of maps, including 3-D and nighttime formats, on the huge 10.2-inch display. This hard-drivebased system is not only quick in accessing information, it includes an Entertainment server with room to store up to 12 GB of music and media from a CD, MP3 player or USB stick. And if your 7 Series is equipped with the optional Head-up Display, you’ll be able to always focus on the road ahead.

A virtual image of the Navigation system directions is conveniently projected right onto the windshield, along with your choice of other important travel information, such as your current speed, cruise control information, pedestrians detected by Night Vision, Check Control and on-board computer warnings. From time to time you might have questions on all these great features.

Simply call up the integrated Owner’s Manual using the iDrive function. In seconds you’ll find what you need, presented in an easyto- understand format using animations, slide shows and more. The all-new 7 Series’ performance enhancements raise the luxury performance benchmark once again, challenging all others in its segment.

You don’t need to hit the track to fully appreciate its handling capabilities. One of its more remarkable new features is Driving Dynamics Control. With just the push of a button, you can adjust its handling and performance. In the mood for a relaxed cruise? Choose the comfort or normal settings. Feel like tackling a twisty mountain road with sporty agility?

Hit sport or sport+. Each setting changes shock-absorber firmness, accelerator response, and the characteristics for shifting, power steering assist and understeer/oversteer. It’s almost like having four different cars in one. The optional Sport Package includes Active Roll Stabilization, a feature that seems to defy the laws of physics.

It helps the 7 Series resist outward roll during cornering, so not only do your passengers stay comfortably level, but it helps keep the vehicle’s weight firmly planted on all four wheels, for improved handling and braking. No two curves, bumps or dips in the road are alike.

Thanks to Dynamic Damping Control, the 7 Series responds to each like a pro. As you drive, sensors “read” the road and convey data to the control unit 400 times a second. The system then automatically adjusts the shock absorbers between the softest and firmest settings. Add optional Integral Active Steering and Active Roll Stabilization, and the all-new 7 Series for 2009 delivers a ride that’s smooth as silk with the agility of an athlete.
